Beverly Hills : New Wisteria at Pergola

Share

A group of citizens who have been working to restore Beverly Gardens Park will plant wisteria vines Friday at the pergola between Alta Drive and Arden Drive, along Santa Monica Boulevard.

The 10 a.m. planting, timed for the weekend of Earth Day, is intended to replace a decades-old wisteria that was removed when the pergola was rebuilt last year, according to Ellen Stern Harris, one of the founders of the group known as the Friends of Beverly Gardens.

Beverly Gardens, largest of the city’s three parks, has the oddest shape. Only 85 feet wide, it runs for 22 blocks along the north side of Santa Monica Boulevard from Doheny Drive to Wilshire Boulevard, where it continues to Whittier Drive.
