Whittier Election Signals a New Era

Share

The main progressive candidates (Helen McKenna Rahder, Bob Henderson, Frederic Bergerson) in the Whittier City Council election won a collective 53% majority, besides winning two seats on the council. This is in stunning contrast to the 29% won by the two old-guard candidates (Gene Chandler and David Todd), even with their substantial advantages of money, incumbency and Chamber of Commerce connections.

This almost 2-to-1 mandate from the voters signals a new era in this city, when the quality of life of the residents will matter more than the profits of developers and oil companies. Congratulations to the residents and voters of Whittier.
