Fashion Strip-Mine Ban Passes: The U.S. House joined the Senate in approving a bill to halt strip mining of pumice stones from the beds of New Mexico’s scenic Jemez River. The relatively rare stones have mostly been used to prepare stone-washed jeans. The Bush Administration supports the bill.
