A motorist being pursued by police on Saturday night crashed a stolen pickup truck after ramming a patrol car and driving through a fence, police said.
The motorist, James Scott Blazevich, 27, identified by police as a transient formerly of Garden Grove, was held in Cypress City Jail on suspicion of felony assault of a police officer, possession of stolen property and reckless evading. His bail was set at $50,000.
The chase started about 9:25 p.m. Saturday when Patrolman Tom Bruce spotted the suspect driving erratically in a 1980 Toyota pickup truck near the intersection of Knott and Cerritos avenues, Cypress Police Sgt. John Avila said. The suspect speeded up as Bruce tried to pull him over.
During a brief but wild chase, Avila said, the suspect rammed an Orange County sheriff’s vehicle assisting in the pursuit and drove through a railroad retaining fence. The chase ended when the suspect crashed the truck into a tree on Katella Avenue east of Beach Boulevard, Avila said.
