Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.: The company said first-quarter profit totaled $20.9 million, down 78% from the same period last year. Sales rose slightly to $2.7 billion. The world’s largest rubber maker, based in Akron, Ohio, blamed pricing competition, cutbacks in North American vehicle production and higher costs for advertising and wages.
