March found municipal treasuries enriched by $24.29 million, the latest increment of sales and use tax revenues distributed by the State Board of Equalization. That’s a 7% decrease from the amount received by the cities in February. The county received $25.26 million in total (counting amounts allocated to county government), a 9% decrease from February.

Anaheim retained its traditional place in March, receiving the largest share of the total--13%, or $3.1 million. The largest per-capita distribution was $25.55, in Brea. Villa Park, which normally receives the smallest amounts from these distributions, was shut out in March.

The county’s total allocation was second highest in the local

five-county region; Los Angeles County received almost three times as much. But Orange County’s per-capita amount of $10.98 was 33% higher than Los Angeles and highest among the five counties.

Each month city and county governments and other governmental organizations receive payments from the state in anticipation of actual sales tax revenues. In the fourth month they receive a cleanup payment--the difference between actual revenues and the amounts previously received--plus the first advance payment for the next quarter.

The amounts listed here are the first advance payment for the first quarter of 1990 plus a cleanup payment for the fourth quarter of 1989.
