If video circulation at the county’s public libraries is any indication, some of the bloom may be off home movie viewing. Between 1988 and 1989, circulation of videocassettes declined 2%--this after a 6% increase between 1987 and 1988. Videos circulate in 27 branches of the county public library, and during 1989 there were declines from 1988 at 14 of them.

The La Habra branch circulated 51,156 movies (or 8% of the county total) in 1989, the most at any location. In terms of a single community, though, Irvine viewers were busiest, checking out nearly 72,000 movies at the city’s two branches--nearly 40% more than the three branches in Garden Grove and 83% more than Costa Mesa’s two libraries.
