The NBA playoffs begin their two-month stranglehold over the sports television viewing choices with seven games set for this weekend.
CBS has double-headers both today and Sunday. The New York Knicks continue their elusive search for a win at Boston Garden when they face the Celtics at 10 a.m. on Channels 2 and 8. The Knicks’ last victory at Boston was on Feb. 29, 1984. Today’s second game matches the Indiana Pacers and defending champion Detroit Pistons at 12:30 p.m.
TNT also has a double-header today. At 5 p.m., the San Antonio Spurs seek to increase their lead over the Denver Nuggets to 2-0, while the Portland Trail Blazers also try to go two games up on the Dallas Mavericks at 7:30 p.m.
On Sunday, the CBS double-header begins with the Milwaukee Bucks visiting the Chicago Bulls at 10 a.m., followed by the Lakers-Houston Rockets match-up at 12:30 p.m. TNT’s game pits the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Philadelphia 76ers at 4:30 p.m.
There also is plenty of baseball on tap for this weekend. The hobbling Dodgers meet the Chicago Cubs Sunday at 5 p.m. on ESPN, with the struggling Angels in New York for 10:30 a.m. telecasts today and Sunday on Channel 5.
In boxing, Thomas Hearns defends his World Boxing Organization super middleweight championship against Michael Olajide tonight at 7 on Showtime. The card from Donald Trump’s new Atlantic City Taj Mahal casino-hotel also includes the WBO light heavyweight championship in which Mario Oscar Melo challenges undefeated titlist Michael Moorer.
