VENTURA : Search On for Man Missing From Boat
A search was under way Friday for a 37-year-old Ventura man who went sailing on his 18-foot catamaran Thursday and failed to return. His boat was found 15 hours after he left.
The man, whose name was not released, left Ventura Harbor at 4:30 p.m. Thursday for a two-hour cruise, Coast Guard Petty Officer Robert Beals said.
His wife reported him missing after midnight, Beals said. The boat was found 2 1/2 miles northeast of Anacapa Island by a boater at 7:45 a.m. Friday.
That was 10 miles off the man’s normal route. Waves during the night were up to three feet, rough seas for that type of vessel, Beals said.
Coast Guardsmen in four vessels and a helicopter searched Friday.
