Iowa State’s John Nuttall broke a 12-year-old record in the 1,500 meters and Kevin Little became the first four-time champion from the host school as the 81st Drake Relays concluded in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Louisiana State women sparkled, too, Cinnamon Sheffield leading a 1-2-4-5 Tiger finish in the 100 hurdles and winning the 400 relay.
Nuttall broke from the middle of the pack halfway through the race to win the 1,500 in 3:41.74, better than the 3:42.08 Wisconsin’s Steve Lacy set in 1978.
Little, a senior at Drake, outran Alabama’s Clive Wright in the straightaway to win the 200 in 20.71 seconds.
