British Airways Offers Air Pass

Share

British Airways has launched a United Kingdom air pass that offers one-way tickets between various cities on the carrier’s route within England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Purchase must be a minimum of three sectors, one-way flights (12 maximum). The pass has to be bought in the United States seven days before arrival in the United Kingdom and must cover a full itinerary.

In addition, the pass has to be bought in conjunction with a transatlantic flight. But you can fly any airline, not just British Airways.

The one-way sectors cost $66 for flights from London, and $49 if the two cities involved don’t include London.

Flights are limited to one in each direction. The minimum stay between the first and last point on your itinerary has to be at least seven days and no more than three months.

Savings over regular economy one-way fares are 20% to 65%, according to a British Airways spokesman. Refunds are available for unused tickets.

Among the cities on the airline’s route are Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast.

Children 2 to 12 years can fly at 67% of the regular, one-way economy rate. Infants can fly at 10% of the rate.

In conjunction with Air U.K., Dan-Air is offering a “Visit United Kingdom” pass that permits travelers to fly to any point the two airlines serve on their combined routes in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The first one-way flight costs $79, with each additional one-way flight costing $59. Rates are effective until March 31, 1991.

Although tickets for additional flights also have to be issued in the United States, they can be open-dated.

Reservations can be made on arrival in the United Kingdom. Maximum stay is 60 days with this pass. There is no minimum-stay requirement.

Discover Europe Marketing, the U.S. representative for Dan-Air, also offers a “Discover Europe” hotel pass good at more than 150 Queens Moat Houses Hotels along with some independent hotels in the United Kingdom, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, West Germany and Corsica.

The rate for this year is $99 per room (same as 1989) for up to four people, taxes included. Some hotels offer complimentary breakfasts.

A minimum purchase of four vouchers is required. Reservations for the hotels can be made in the United States or Europe. Contact travel agents or Dan-Air at (602) 998-5990 for more information.
