SEAL BEACH : Motorist Held After Shooting, Assault

An unidentified driver was being held Sunday after being shot by an off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy following an assault in Seal Beach, police reported.

The incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. Saturday when the deputy tried to arrest the driver for allegedly assaulting him with a vehicle outside the Rockwell International complex on Westminster Avenue near Seal Beach Boulevard, Seal Beach police said.

The driver was shot “in the lower extremities” by the deputy during the attempted arrest, police said.

Seal Beach police would not release the names of the deputy or motorist, nor would they reveal any details except to say the shooting is being investigated by the Orange County district attorney’s office.

The driver was booked into Orange County Jail, where he was treated in the medical ward, and held on suspicion of vehicular assault.
