County Settles Suit Over Police Beating
County officials have agreed to pay $65,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a Lancaster youth who said he was beaten by a Los Angeles County sheriff’s sergeant during an arrest in 1986.
The county Claims Board voted Monday to settle the suit filed by Stephen Pszyk, 18, out of court.
Pszyk charged that Sgt. Stephen Nelson hit him repeatedly with a billy club, damaging several of the youth’s teeth.
Pszyk alleged in the suit that Nelson beat him after he and another youth were pursued by several deputies.
The deputies said they suspected the two youths of trying to break in to parked cars.
Pszyk’s attorney confirmed his client’s acceptance of the settlement.
