Rob Driemeyer wanted a gold hat from the finale of “A Chorus Line” as a birthday present for his sister, but he had to settle for a $4 pair of worn-out tap shoes.

“She wanted a hat, but she’ll survive,” Driemeyer said Wednesday afternoon as he picked through five baskets of gold shoes worn in the hit Broadway show that closed last Saturday after 6,137 performances. Driemeyer was one of nearly 1,000 fans of the Tony Award-winning musical who sifted through piles of shoes, shirts, costumes, posters, cast pictures and hats in a one-day memorabilia sale at the Shubert Theater, where “A Chorus Line” played for nearly 15 years.
