Diamond Bar : A Bid to Expand the City
The city, in a bid to eventually increase its size by more than 50%, has asked Los Angeles County to expand Diamond Bar’s sphere of influence to include 4,500 acres of largely undeveloped land.
If the city’s request is approved by the county, Diamond Bar could annex the area. The county Local Agency Formation Commission is scheduled to review the matter June 13.
City Manager Robert Van Nort said the committee that drew up the proposed sphere of influence avoided heavily populated areas, such as the neighboring community of Rowland Heights, because “we want the least amount of political controversy. We didn’t want several irate Rowland Heights residents . . . who don’t want to be part of Diamond Bar.”
The area includes the 3,000-acre Firestone Boy Scout Camp, which abuts Orange County to the south.
