A Santa Paula man who fired two gunshots at his checkers opponent was arrested Wednesday. No one was injured in the incident, police said.
Rafael Magana, 24, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, Santa Paula Police Cmdr. Bob Gonzalez said.
Magana and Magdaleno Sosa, 26, of Santa Paula began fighting in La Hacienda Bar in the 900 block of Main Street during a game of checkers, Gonzalez said.
Magana fired a shot at Sosa, who ducked to avoid being hit by the bullet. A second shot fired at Sosa also missed, Gonzales said.
Magana fled the bar but was arrested shortly after in a nearby street, Gonzalez said. Magana was being held Wednesday in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, he said.
