Hospital Fails to Block New Facility

A contractor began preparing a site across from Centinela Hospital Medical Center for construction of a 14-bed psychiatric treatment facility Monday after a Superior Court judge denied a request by the Inglewood hospital to block the facility.
Centinela, one of Inglewood’s biggest employers and most politically powerful institutions, filed a lawsuit last year seeking to block the controversial outpatient facility from a site at 1011 Myrtle Ave., across the street from the hospital. A judge dismissed the suit and criticized Centinela, saying it showed an irrational fear of the mentally ill.
Centinela then filed a request for a temporary restraining order, which was denied by Judge David Yaffe on Monday. The facility will be run by Didi Hirsch Psychiatric Services.
