Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu’s flamboyant son Nicu will stand trial May 26 on charges of genocide, Bucharest radio said today.
“The Military Tribunal in Bucharest has ruled that Nicu Ceausescu stand trial on May 26 for genocide and for not observing regulations on weapons and ammunition,” the radio said.
Ceausescu’s parents were executed Dec. 25 during a bloody uprising which brought the National Salvation Front to power.
The radio said Nicu, 37, will be tried in the Transylvanian town of Sibiu where he had been a senior Communist Party official. He was captured Dec. 22 while trying to drive from Sibiu to Bucharest.
He is the youngest of the three Ceausescu children after adopted son Valentin, 42, and daughter Zoe, 39, both in prison awaiting trial.
