Kimble Entered in One-on-One Competition for TV
Bo Kimble of Loyola Marymount will be among eight college basketball players taking part in a one-on-one competition at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, N.J., June 25 in a pay-per-view television event.
The competitors, who are all entering the June 27 NBA draft, will be vying for a first prize of $100,000. The runner-up will receive $50,000.
Other participants include Lionel Simmons of La Salle, Derrick Coleman of Syracuse, Gary Payton of Oregon State and Chris Jackson of Louisiana State. The remainder of the field will be named later.
The games, to be played in three tiers--quarterfinals, semifinals and final--will each be eight minutes long.
The show, to be carried by Viewer’s Choice, Request TV and most cable companies with pay-per-view channels, will cost $12.95. It will also be distributed to some sports bars.
A preliminary event on the two-hour show will be a vertical dunk contest final, using a basket that can be raised higher than 10 feet. Regional competitions will be held in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Detroit and Baltimore-Washington.
