Split in half by Magnolia Boulevard, the south side of North Hollywood Recreation Center is crisscrossed with jogging trails and dotted with trees and picnic tables. Designed for joggers and families, the area has been used illegally as a sleeping ground for homeless people. Recently the Los Angeles Police Department has curbed the problem with more frequent patrolling.

Park Director Dave Potell said his is one of the only parks in the city with an active ice-skating program. A popular class, which meets at Laurel Plaza Ice Skating Rink, is the Parent and Me course for adults and children from age 3 to 6. “We have so many people interested it’s almost like a small business,” Potell said. “We’ll keep growing to meet the demand.”
