T-Bill Rates Rise: Interest rates on 52-week Treasury bills rose to their highest level in nearly a year. The Treasury Department sold $10.04 billion of the bills at an average discount rate of 8.05%, up from 7.72% at the last auction April 5. The rates were the highest since last June 1, when the one-year bills sold for 8.18%. The new discount rate understates the actual return to investors: 8.70%, with a $10,000 bill selling for $9,186.10.
