Running back Eric Dickerson of the Indianapolis Colts, who announced his retirement from football earlier this year, said he wants to play in the NFL this season, but not for the Colts.
“I still would like to play football,” he said. “My preference is not to play here. I’m good, I know I’m good. . . . To sit back and not play, to me would be a waste. Maybe I would look back later and say, ‘Maybe I should have played.’ ”
He said that the only way he is likely to return to the Colts is if his attorney advises him to. Colt officials have said that Dickerson is subject to fines of about $1 million if he fails to play. His contract for this year calls for $1.45 million.
