Mobile Home Costs

Share

Bernie Murray sought to persuade readers that mobile homes can be as good an investment as single-family homes (Letters, April 22).

What Mr. Murray fails to consider is that some mobile-home parks are subject to the whims of the park owners when a coach is sold.

Earlier this year, Ventura County supervisors, for some obscure reason, allowed park owners carte blanche increases in rental charges when a coach was sold. Without a fixed or percentage cap, this makes usury sound like a double-discount coupon.

In our park, the owner has decided it is a “reasonable” increase to add $150 when a coach is sold. What does Mr. Murray feel about a near-40% rent increase? It might explain over 10% unsold coaches.
