Large Field Set for Long Beach Marathon
More than 4,500 entrants from at least 15 countries are expected to run today in the ninth Long Beach Marathon.
The men’s elite field includes Ron Tabb of San Diego, who has a best time of 2 hours 9 minutes 31 seconds. Also in the race is Tony Neimczak of Poland, who was second in this year’s Los Angeles Marathon. Neimczak has run 2:10:34.
The women’s field is led by Tatiana Fedorwa of the Soviet Union, who has run 2:33:58, and Akemi Takayama of Japan, whose best time is 2:35:15.
The race will start and finish in front of the Long Beach Convention Center. Racewalkers start at 7 a.m., wheelchair athletes at 7:20 and runners at 7:25.
