COUNTYWIDE : 5-Cent Hike Sought on Regular Bus Fare

Share

Some Orange County bus passengers would have to pay a nickel more per trip if a proposed fare increase is approved after a public hearing today.

Under the proposal, the one-way, regular fee would increase from 85 cents to 90 cents.

The Orange County Transit District Board of Directors will also consider reducing the fare for handicapped passengers from the current 85 cents to 45 cents during peak hours and from 40 cents to 15 cents in off-peak periods.

The district’s dial-a-ride fares would increase from $1.70 to $1.80, and from 80 cents to 90 cents for seniors and handicapped passengers. Dial-a-ride provides curb-to-curb van service by appointment within small zones.

The public hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the OCTD offices in Garden Grove.

Also today, the transit district’s board will get its first look at a proposed 1990-91 operating budget that is expected to surpass $200 million for the first time because OCTD will be funding initial phases of transit-way construction at the Santa Ana Freeway-Costa Mesa Freeway interchange, officials said.
