Joffrey Takes Arpino Works Off Program

The Joffrey Ballet has removed two works by Gerald Arpino from its Sunday night program, indicating the dispute between the company and its former artistic director remains unsettled.

Sunday night’s program was to include the fourth performance of Arpino’s newest work, “TWO-A-DAY,” which was originally scheduled for five performances during its Los Angeles premiere. “Sea Shadow” was the other Arpino work scheduled for Sunday evening. The Arpino works have been replaced by “Lacrymosa” and “The Green Table.”

The first two scheduled performances of “TWO-A-DAY” were held on May 2-3, but the third performance was canceled after Arpino’s attorney advised the company to refrain from performing the choreographer’s works. The final performance of “TWO-A-DAY” is scheduled for May 16.

“TWO-A-DAY” was commissioned by David Murdock, the Los Angeles businessman and Joffrey co-chairman who has reportedly submitted a letter of resignation from the board.
