Mel, the Prince of Denmark

“Mel Gibson strides purposefully along the . . . corridor in his huge hotel suite. ‘Mineral water, please? And gum?’ he says to no one in particular, glancing neither right nor left.”
I would have guessed that David Gritten’s May 6 article was talking about the late Shah of Iran or, at least, the Elizabeth Taylor of years ago.
Who did Gibson expect to hand him the mineral water and the gum? Really! He’s too much, and not of the right kind.
As for Gibson in “Hamlet”: Shakespeare is hard enough to sell. Young people know little besides TV and their parents don’t know Mel Gibson, so who’s to pay to see him?
