The Chicago Bears have settled their tax dispute with the Internal Revenue Service.

The dispute arose from a 1981 reorganization of the NFL team. The IRS contended the reorganization placed an artificially low value on the 49.35% of the team’s stock then held in the name of team founder George S. Halas, who died Oct. 31, 1983.

“The financial settlement will have no impact on the McCaskey family’s continuing ownership of the Chicago Bears,” team president Michael McCaskey said.
