Mathematician, 54, Named President of Cal State Fullerton
A mathematician and high-ranking California State University administrator was named president of Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday.
Milton A. Gordon, 54, who currently is vice president for academic affairs at Sonoma State University, was selected over two other educators in the CSU system for the Fullerton post.
“This is a very happy occasion for me,” said Gordon, who will become the fourth black president in the CSU system when he assumes the post Aug. 1. “Fullerton is a very proud institution . . . that is poised for greatness.”
Gordon said he will continue efforts to increase minority students and faculty at the 25,000-student Fullerton campus. Another major goal, he said, is to increase private fund-raising to support research and ongoing programs at the school. The university last year raised $5 million in grants and private donations, much of it to support a growing emphasis on research.
“Dr. Gordon will bring a sense of energy that will enable Fullerton to achieve it’s potential . . .,” said CSU Trustee William D. Campbell.
