San Marino : Expansion Limits Extended

Share

The City Council unanimously agreed last week to extend for a year restrictions on new or expanding real estate and stock brokerage firms.

This means real estate or brokerage offices must apply for permits to hire several new employees or expand their square footage. The ordinance singles out these two businesses, officials said, because they generate more parking needs than others.

But Sylvia Killeby, representing the San Marino-South Pasadena Board of Realtors, called the ordinance discriminatory. “The proposed parking ordinance provides unequal protection within the community,” she said. “It will restrict growth within the realty and brokerage businesses.”

The restrictions are effective until April, 1991. City officials, meanwhile, are overhauling San Marino’s Zoning and Building codes.
