THE SIDELINES : Penders’ Suspension Affirmed

The Southwest Conference Compliance Committee reaffirmed the decision of Commissioner Fred Jacoby to suspend University of Texas basketball Coach Tom Penders for one game during the 1990-91 season.

Conference officials today released the decision the Compliance Committee reached a day earlier after an appeal by UT officials in Penders’ behalf.

Jacoby found that Penders had violated a conference bylaw regarding unsportsmanlike conduct. The violations followed a public reprimand issued Jan. 29, 1990, for comments Penders made criticizing conference basketball officials.
