All That Jazz . . .

Jazzercisers, to your feet. It would be a real workout for jazz fans to hit all the gigs goin’ on in Ventura County this weekend. The choices run the gamut: Cool mainstream to swing; big band to blues; an amalgam of classical and jazz; a spicy combination of fusion and Latin beats, plus New Age.

* The Camarillo Arts Council will present the first of its free Concerts-In-The Park (Constitution Park, 610 Carmen Drive, Camarillo) series Saturday and Sunday with a festival highlighting local talent:

* Saturday at 3 p.m. the two Camarillo high schools, Rio Mesa High and Camarillo High, will present their jazz big bands back-to-back. Then the Ventura County Honor High School Jazz Band, made up of the best young jazz musicians in the county, will take the stage. Next up, the Jazz Lab Band from Cal State Northridge entertains with their hard-driving, swinging sound.

Featured 4 p.m. Sunday are three professional groups playing a variety of jazz styles. Geoff Stradling & The Strad Band will perform a mixture of jazz, funk, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian styles. The Theo Saunders Quintet will play cool, mainstream jazz of the 1960s and ‘70s. Finally, the Tim Young Blues Band will offer the audience its soulful rhythm and blues. Food and refreshments available; the audience is advised to bring blankets or lawn chairs. For information, call 987-7847.

* The Conejo Symphony Orchestra will present the Brazilian guitarist Laurindo Almeida and his Trio, 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the North Ranch Country Club, 4761 Valley Spring Drive, Westlake Village. The performance is a benefit for the symphony. This year’s annual spring event, entitled “A Jazzy Tea,” will include a full English tea. Donations are $40 each or $75 per couple. * Crystal Wind, a five-member San Francisco Bay Area band playing a blend of jazz, New Age and Third World influences, will play 8 p.m. Saturday at The American Heritage Gallery, Signal and Matilija streets, Ojai. The concert will inaugurate a new showcase performance space for Ojai. Eddie Guthman and Michael Bolotin, both of Ojai, joined the band in the last year. Their first album, “Inner Traveler,” is climbing the contemporary music charts (as of May 1 it was number 20). Tickets bought in advance at the gallery are $8, $10 the day of the concert. * The Theo Saunders Quartet will warm up for their Sunday Camarillo Festival appearance at 9 p.m. Friday at Wheeler Hot Springs, 16825 Maricopa Highway, Ojai. Saunders, an Ojai resident, has recently returned from Louisiana where he appeared at the New Orleans Jazz Festival as a member of the Charles Lloyd Quartet. There is a $10 cover charge, $8 if you also buy dinner. Reservations are suggested. Call 646-8131.
