Man Convicted in Burglary of Celebrities’ Hotel Room
A man was convicted in absentia Thursday of burglarizing the hotel room of actor Don Johnson and his wife, actress Melanie Griffith, in 1989.
The defendant, Henry Rosenbaum, 35, had been free on $50,000 bail. He failed to show up for the defense phase of his trial Wednesday, and is now considered a fugitive. Santa Monica Superior Court Judge Robert Altman has issued a warrant for his arrest. A sentencing date will be set once Rosenbaum is apprehended.
Jurors deliberated about one hour before convicting Rosenbaum of a single count of residential burglary, which carries a penalty of up to six years in prison.
Johnson testified that when he and Griffith returned to their room at the Bel Air Hotel on Jan. 29, 1989, they found Rosenbaum rifling through Griffith’s jewelry.
