About 750 families who live in Camarillo Springs will no longer have to use the Ventura Freeway to get to the rest of Camarillo.

City officials Monday opened Ridgeview Street, which will serve as a surface road connecting the large, planned community to eastern Camarillo.

Street not open--In an article Tuesday, The Times incorrectly reported that Ridgeview Street has been opened in Camarillo Springs. Construction of the road is actually just beginning.

The 1.3-mile, two-lane route begins at Camarillo Springs Road, runs west along Camarillo Springs Golf Course, crosses Conejo Creek and connects with Pleasant Valley Road.

Before Ridgeview Street was built, Camarillo Springs residents could reach the rest of the city only by highway, said City Manager William Little.

The $2-million street had been planned since the late 1970s, but the city decided not to build the road until 500 homes had been sold in Camarillo Springs. The developer, Barclay Hollander Corp., met the goal earlier this year, Little said.
