American to Takeover Latin Routes in Phases: American Airlines will take over Eastern Airlines’ Latin American routes in four phases beginning June 30, Eastern said. “It just provided for the smoothest transition possible,” an Eastern spokesman said of the agreement, under which both airlines will fly to some Latin countries--not at the same time--from June 30 until Aug. 14.
