A pregnant woman convicted of endangering her step-grandson through brutal beatings was sentenced Tuesday to five years in state prison.

The sentencing of Gina Lockridge, 32, of San Marcos was held at the County Jail in Santee because of an unspecified illness and her pregnancy, officials said.

San Diego Superior Court Judge Carlos Cazares listened to arguments from Deputy Dist. Atty. Harry Elias and defense attorney Michael Dealy in the jail.

Gina Lockridge pleaded guilty Aug. 24, 1989, to three counts of child endangerment, and her husband, Harry Lockridge, 53, who is the 12-year-old victim’s grandfather, pleaded guilty to one count of child endangerment.

She could have received a maximum nine-year term.

The boy testified at a May, 1989, preliminary hearing that Gina Lockridge and her then 13-year-old son beat him severely, with objects such as a broom handle, a rubber mallet, and shoes. He said he was forced to gargle with water from the toilet and someone placed a urine-soaked diaper over his face.

Harry Lockridge, who was sentenced Jan. 16 to six months in a work furlough program, was ordered released Tuesday from that program by another judge. Harry Lockridge, who operated a key shop in North County, was also fined $600.
