Soccer fans angered by the sale of their star player had planned a firebomb attack on the training camp of the Italian World Cup squad, investigators said today. The training center of Coverciano, where the squad is preparing for the World Cup, remained closed to the public while armored police trucks patrolled the area.

Fifty people were injured and 15 were arrested last Friday when Florentine fans attacked the headquarters of the Florentine club, then rioted and clashed with police. The incident occurred after the sale of Roberto Baggio, the 23-year-old star forward of Fiorentina and of the national team, to rival Juventus of Turin for a record $13 million.
