BREA : 4 Rob Mall Jeweler as Guards Watch

Share

Four men, at least three of them armed, robbed a Brea Mall jewelry store while two unarmed mall security guards watched the heist from a distance and did not intervene, authorities said Thursday.

The security guards “used good judgment by not escalating the incident, which could possibly have jeopardized the safety of store employees and persons in the mall,” Police Lt. Chet Panique said.

Three of the robbers entered Bailey, Banks & Biddle in the Brea Mall about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday while the fourth served as a lookout outside the shop, Panique said.

The robbers pointed pistols at the employees and ordered them to open the display cases and remove the jewelry, he said.

The suspects fled the mall on foot with an undetermined amount of jewels, police said. No suspects have been apprehended.
