Closed Landfill to Be Tested for Leaks

Share

County and state officials are holding a public meeting Wednesday to unveil plans for a testing program that will attempt to determine whether hazardous waste is leaking from the Palos Verdes landfill.

The testing, expected to take up to three years to complete, will involve at least 39 test borings on the now closed 291-acre dump in Rolling Hills Estates between Crenshaw and Hawthorne boulevards.

If contaminants are found to be leaching from the property, remedial action will be taken, delaying county plans to turn 180 acres of the land into an 18-hole public golf course.

The public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the South Coast Botanic Gardens, at 26300 Crenshaw Blvd., Rolling Hills Estates.
