Cards, Hat Break School Board Ties

CENTER, Neb. — One deadlocked school board race was broken when candidates played a winner-take-all game of high-card draw. A second tie in the same county was decided by picking a name from a hat.
Bloomfield School Board contender Milton Johnson moved into the November general election last week after he drew an ace and opponent Richard Ketelson drew a jack, Knox County Clerk Virginia Buerman said.
Both men had 105 votes after a recount of the May 15 primary.
In another tie-breaker, Jerry Kitto’s name was drawn out of a hat to give him a four-year term on the Santee School Board. Kitto had tied with his brother, Richard. A recount showed each had 30 votes.
