Oceanside Surfer Reaches Body Glove Quarterfinals

Mike Lambresi of Oceanside advanced to today’s surfing quarterfinals in the $40,000 Body Glove Memorial Week Classic at Imperial Beach Pier.

Lambresi, the three-time U.S. Surfing Champion, defeated Bobby Lockhart of Huntington Beach, Charlie Kuhn of Indian Harbor Beach, Fla. and Bryan Pottger of Fountain Valley Sunday to advance to the final group of 16. The winner of the final, which begins at noon, will receive $5,500.

SENIOR OLYMPICS

Don Cohen of San Diego won six track and field events at the Senior Olympics at Crawford High. Cohen, competing in the men’s 55-59 age division, won the 200, 1500, one mile walk, two mile walk, long jump and discus.

Morton Paster of Coronado won the 100 meters and one mile walk in the 60-64 division.

Tom Lane of San Diego, who is the oldest competitor at 95 and is legally blind, placed second in the discus and shot put in the 75 and older division.
