Raisin Land?: Will Vinton, the creator of the California Raisins, has grand plans. He wants to transform a rail yard in the Old Town district of Portland, Ore., into a motion picture studio and $70-million entertainment center. Vinton’s plans reportedly call for a mall featuring a mix of shops and other facilities, including 3-D movie theaters, a conservatory with an aviary, and a giant amusement park ride along the lines of Disneyland’s Space Mountain. Vinton also wants to develop movie facilities there so he can move his Claymation studios out of a converted warehouse in Portland. A Vinton representative emphasizes that the project is still in the early planning stages.
