Supervisors to Consider $9 Million for AIDS Funds
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, acting after the start of their meeting Tuesday was held up by militant AIDS activists, voted to study a recommendation by the county’s advisory AIDS commission to add $9 million to the county budget to augment AIDS-related services.
Last week, members of the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power-Los Angeles disrupted the supervisors’ meeting in a half-hour protest that resulted in 27 arrests. On Tuesday, the demonstration lasted less than five minutes and no arrests were made.
The supervisors left the room briefly after the protest began. When they returned they voted unanimously to instruct the Department of Health Services and Chief Administrative Officer Richard Dixon to report back within three weeks on the recommendation.
