HYPER: About 80% of hyperactive children are boys, and “first-born males have the highest rate of the disorder,” says Dr. Paul Hoernig of Newport Harbor Hospital. Some of those with what is now called attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, will grow out of it, but there is no way to determine who will, Hoernig said. . . . Newport Harbor is working with UC Irvine in an unusual program for hyperactive kids that links special schooling with medical treatment that many of them need (N1).
