Santa Monica : Continuation School Split

Share

The 210 students at Olympic Continuation High School will be split next fall between their present site and Santa Monica High School to accommodate plans to lease their campus to Santa Monica College.

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District on Tuesday voted unanimously on an interim plan that would relocate three teachers and about 90 students from their present site at the old Madison School to classrooms at Santa Monica High School.

Four teachers and about 120 students will remain next year at the Madison School site, located at 10th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard, according to Supt. Eugene Tucker.

The district is leasing the Madison School, closed in 1985 because of declining enrollment, to the college, which plans to use it to expand its academic programs.

The lease, which is being negotiated, will include a stipulation that the continuation high school vacate the site within three to five years, according to a staff report.
