Too Much Violence Down Under: The Australian government moved Thursday to reduce the violence shown on television, particularly in news programs. Transport and Communcations Minister Kim Beazley said he supported the recommendations in the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal’s report on television violence. The report recommended that the television industry draw up a uniform code on how to treat violence. It said there was widespread worry about the repetition of violent images. Sports coverage was also criticized, particularly slow-motion replays of brawls. The main concern was the effect of violence on children.
