WORLD : 1 Dies, 2 Live in Suicide Cruise
A French woman was found dead and her adult daughter and son in a coma on a small boat on Lake Geneva after what police today called a suicide pact.
People on shore, intrigued by an apparently empty boat going round in circles for several hours on Wednesday, alerted police who said the three occupants had taken massive doses of barbiturates.
The identities of the woman, a resident of Belgium, and her son and daughter, were not diclosed. Police said the once wealthy family had experienced major financial difficulties after the woman’s husband died.
They said the woman’s 28-year-old daughter was out of danger but the son, 26, was still in a coma.
