Probe Into Eastern Discussed: Eastern Airlines trustee Martin R. Shugrue met with federal prosecutors to discuss allegations that airline managers falsified maintenance records shortly before three unions launched a crippling strike in 1989, an Eastern spokesman confirmed. A grand jury investigating the airline’s maintenance procedures at Kennedy International Airport is reportedly considering indictments against Joseph Leonard, Eastern executive vice president and chief operating officer, and Edward Upton, a former vice president for maintenance and engineering. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office said she had no comment.
