Today: In the first big movie shoot-out of the summer, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Total Recall” is expected to easily triumph over Michael J. Fox’s “Back to the Future 3” in figures to be released today.

Wednesday: The Independent Commission on the Arts and Humanities--established by Congress last year to conduct a broad inquiry into procedures of the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities--will be held in Washington.

Thursday: Universal Studios Florida will open its gates. Numerous stars are expected to attend, and Steven Spielberg will perform the ribbon-cutting (with a filmstrip standing in for the ribbon). . . . Today is Arts Day U.S.A., organized by a coalition of arts and arts service organizations as a nationwide show of support for the National Endowment for the Arts.

Friday: The Judy Garland Festival in Grand Rapids, Minn. will commence, highlighted by the largest gathering of Munchkins since the making of “The Wizard of Oz” in 1939.

Saturday: John Belushi fans will get an opportunity to bid on the late actor’s earthly belongings, including his rumpled “Blues Brothers” suits, each with a pair of sun glasses in the pocket, at the Leslie Hindmann auction house in Chicago.
