From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The luxury liner that was plagued by two fires in a week was finally given permission to leave Philadelphia after its crew corrected safety problems discovered by the Coast Guard. The M.V. Regent Star immediately set sail for a five-day cruise to Canada. Passengers had boarded the ship hours earlier but were forced to wait until the crew brought the ship up to safety standards. The Bahamian cruise ship had been docked in Philadelphia since Wednesday after an electrical fire first forced it to run aground in Delaware Bay a week ago. A second fire aboard the ship on Friday was intentionally set, according to Philadelphia fire authorities. New safety violations included a leaky generator.
